Here's the second installment of my Thundercats Tuesdays, where I post the designs I did for the original Rankin/Bass series. I've included the script title page which has the script title, writers' names, script date, and the show number (ex. TC #97). Note the design callouts and cast list. These three shows were light on new designs and used already established characters. Stay with me, later shows will be more interesting. Enjoy.

Sunday Music Muse Day - Duke Ellington & John Coltrane, Classic Jazz: Jazz Legends, and The Sneider Brothers
Here's this week's Sunday Music Muse Day post, on a much sunnier day than last week. I made some nice music purchases at the Hi-Fi Lounge and Record Archives. First up is the Duke Ellington & John Coltrane CD of the Impulse label LP. It's a iconic LP featuring titans of the jazz accompanying Duke and 'Trane. Elvin Jones, Aaron Bell, Jimmy Garrison, and Sam Woodyard, my father. That made buying this CD a no-brainer. I would buy this for the cover alone. But, of course the music is fantastic.
Second up, is Classic Jazz: Jazz Legends, another Time-Life collection, which a companion to the Classic Jazz: Masters CD set I brought last month. I'll have to check if more of these exist. It comes with a nice booklet (not pictured) with good liners notes and photos. The Jazz Legends features more vocal selections, so it's still a nice way to fill out my jazz collection of tunes.
My third buy is sort of a Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival preview, the Sneider Brothers - The Brockton Best CD, featuring guitarist Bob Snieder and John Snieder on trumpet. Plus, drummer Mike Melito.
Bob and Mike are on the festival line up fronting their own groups. In addition, Bob and Mike play at the nightly after hours jam session the festival present, host by Bob. (Bob sure knows how to stay busy) I'll definitely will be attending the jam sessions, and as many other performances as I can. Here's the link for the festival: http://www.rochesterjazz.com/
You're bound to find something worth coming out for. Also look for the Jazz90.1 radio station tent on Gibb Street . I'm sure on-air host Derek Lucas, and Tom Pethic will be happy to see you. See you at festival. Come and enjoy.

Throwback Thursday - Masterful Marks - Cartoonist Who Changed the World by Monte Beauchamp
Here's a slight cheat for Throwback Thursday. I found this new book at my library, Masterful Marks - Cartoonist Who Changed the World by Monte Beauchamp. It contains 16 wonderful graphic biographics of some of the pioneers of cartooning, like Siegel and Shuster, Jack Kirby, Charles M. Schulz, Edeard Gorey and others. I posting the first page of each piece, because I couldn't decide who to leave out. Enjoy.
"Jack Kirby (with Joe Simon). Unpublished pen-and-ink artwork for Stuntman, circa 1946". from Masterful Marks. Just compare the line work to the Kirby comic art of the 1960's. What a difference.
"Harvey Kuttzman: original artwork for Frontline Combat #7: ©1952 E.C. Publications. Inc. All Rights Reserved. From the collection of Gleen Bray" - introduction Masterful Marks.

Start of Thundercats Tuesdays
Doing spring cleaning and come across old Thundercats Models sheets. I did the last season of tther original show's secondary characters and props, shows #96 to #130. But really the PAC, the Japanese animation studio, was such a well-oiled machine, I only had to give them rouch designs and they did their magic. I thought I might start sharing my designs on what I'll call "ThunderCats Tuesday". Here's the first batch for Show #96 - The Totem Of Dera " written by J. Larry Carroll. The first image is the title page of the script, which was marked up to tell me which needed to be designed. Enjoy.

Rainy Sunday Music Muse Day - Ink Spots, John Martyn, Bossa Nova and Luiz Bonfa (almost)
Here's my Sunday Music Muse Day post for a very rainy day here in Rochester. We've been having heavy rain off and on for the past 24 hours. Not as bad as Texas, and my apologies to my west coast friends who still suffering due to lack of rain, I keep my complaining to a minimum. So, to ease into the gloomy morning, I started off with the Ink Spots - Greatest Hits. A collection of singles from 1939 - 1946, The Original Decca Recording. When the first note of "If I Didn't Care" played, Lisa said, "perfect choice" for the weather. All the tunes of the Ink Spots are just wonderful. Also, they all start with the same intro, and have the spoken word break in the middle of the song. The formula is sort of comforting.
Next I pulled something from my hippie roots, John Martyn - Sweet Little Mysteries, the Island (Records) Anthology. I bought this years ago mainly because it included his One World album, which I still have. It features Steve Winwood of Traffic in keyboards. John Martyn has a gravelly vocal style like a Joe Cocker or Van Morrison, maybe. The main thing I like about One World is the ethereal mood of the cuts like "One World" and "Small Hours". I'll put youtube link in comments for you.
My last selection in a surprise or mistake, depending how you look at it. I picked this Luiz Bonfa -Non Stop Brazil CD at a Good Well shop years ago, and discover when I got home the CD in the case was a different one.
Luckily it was still a Bossa Nova collection, called Bossa Nova Brasil (their spelling not mine). Still a lot of good tunes on it. Here the link for Bossa Nova Brasil CD track info. But I still want to the Luiz Bonfa CD. Enjoy.
